Present: Commissioner Chad Mayall via cell phone on speaker
Commissioner Greg Gossett
Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn
Absent: Commissioner Samantha Norton
Public Participation- none
New Business:
Regarding the hiring of one police officer, Commissioner Mayall asked if the commission wanted to hire from the initial hiring list or from the lateral list. It was mentioned that the City Council would prefer using the lateral list if possible, as it would cut costs for training and get an officer on the street more quickly. The commissioners agreed that this would be best if the candidate would be successful in the testing process to be hired. The first candidate is interested, so he will be contacted to schedule the PD interview, and then the usually poly/psych/physical process, pending results on each.
Regarding the promotion of a police officer to the rank of Sergeant, the commissioners reviewed the current promotional list, and after a positive report from PSD Fairburn, a Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to promote Keith Grant to the rank of Sergeant. All Ayes, Motion carried. Carol will prepare the letter of promotion for signature.
The commissioners then engaged in a discussion of requiring or creating a passing point for the written test in the PD Initial testing process. Commissioner Mayall stated that the testing company should be able to provide a passing score number, but Commissioner Gossett suggested that the commission can select their own, as suggested by the testing companies. Gossett said that choosing 70 would be justified, because based on a scale of 100, 70 could be considered passing with a C or D, and it would be the lowest candidate the commission would want to consider for employment.
Regarding the start of another testing process for a new PD Sergeant Promotional list, the first step is getting signatures of eligible candidates on a waiver of advertisement, and then distributing the reading list.
Regarding the hiring process for a firefighter, the commission learned that the candidate has passed the polygraph and the psychological, and he is scheduled for his physical on Friday. A Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall, seconded by Commissioner Gossett, to hire Chase Jones as a full-time firefighter, pending results of his physical exam. All Ayes, Motion carried.
Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by
Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
