Darin LaHood, currently serving as a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 16th district, shared his thoughts and positions on recent events and legislative actions through a series of tweets. Having replaced Aaron Schock in 2015, LaHood continues to address pressing issues facing the nation.
On July 7, 2025, LaHood expressed his condolences and support for those affected by severe flooding in Texas. He tweeted "My prayers are with all those impacted by the devastating floods in Texas. I am incredibly grateful for all the first responders and volunteers, including Rescue 136 from Dixon, who are working tirelessly to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts."
The following day, on July 8, he highlighted a significant legislative achievement by stating "When @HouseGOP passed the One Big Beautiful Bill, we codified 28 of President Trump's executive orders! Together, we are securing our border, strengthening U.S. national security, and unleashing American energy." This tweet underscores his commitment to supporting measures that bolster national security and energy independence.
Later that day, LaHood addressed concerns regarding foreign ownership of U.S. agricultural land. He asserted "The CCP is not just a competitor—it is an adversary that seeks to threaten our national security at every level. We must ensure that we increase oversight over U.S. farmland owned by foreign adversaries. Any foreign investment in U.S. agricultural land must be properly reported." This reflects his focus on safeguarding national interests against potential threats posed by foreign entities.
Darin LaHood was born in Peoria, Illinois in 1968 and resides there currently. He graduated from Loras College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned a Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
