City of Lexington issued the following announcement on Aug. 7.
There is a new way to get in touch with nature at Grimes Park. The Lexington Appearance Commission has finished its tree identification project labeling different species with pedestal markers. The goal is to make citizens and visitors aware of the varieties of unique trees that line the park's walking trail. A total of 26 trees, such as Loblolly Pine, Shagbark Hickory and American Chestnut, were identified. Eight of the most significant and native trees to our area have markers. The Commission says it can always add additional markers at a later date.
