CANTON CITY: Lights within Our Community 94th Annual Dinner & Awards

Canton City issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.

The Canton Area Chamber of Commerce is committed to promoting the accomplishments of leaders within our community, and recognizing them for their personal and professional successes. These awards are granted to those who have displayed exemplary leadership in business, given their time and talents selflessly to the community, and played an impactful role on hundreds of youth in our community. This year the Chamber has chosen to inform the winners before the Annual Dinner so they can invite family and friends to the awards ceremony to be held on Thursday, January 31 5:30 pm at the VFW. Public is welcome to attend - tickets are $30 per person.

Here are the winners for 2019.

The 2019 Educator of the Year award recipient goes to

Nicole Cain of Lincoln Elementary School

Nicole has been at Lincoln Elementary for 13 years. Her dedication and passion for what she does is infectious! She has taken the lead on implementation of Ready Math at the kindergarten level, embraced the districts Four Pillars for students success, lead professional development opportunities for CUSD #66 employees, has been a leader in incorporating technology into the classroom and has been awarded grants to support the implementation of STEAM initiatives. Nicole is a teacher that has passion for teaching, love and compassion for all students, encourages her students to do their very best, has a willingness to change, a work ethic that does not quit and makes every student feel included. She is also a wonderful role model for her fellow workers and she strives to make a difference within the school district! Congratulations Nicole!

The 2019 Business Person of the Year award recipient goes to Bob Senneff of Graham Hospital

Most everyone knows Bob as the CEO of Graham Hospital but he is involved in so much more. Bob works tirelessly keeping Graham Hospital a strong rural hospital that is financially stable, offers a state of the art facility and provides excellent care for Fulton County residents. He is responsible for working with his board and expanding other clinics in smaller towns, like the newest to come in Elmwood, to offer patient care for all and brings great leadership to the Graham Hospital School of Nursing program. Outside of the hospital Bob has been involved in getting the Bike Share program up and running while partnering with the Canton Park District, helping to provide a Biomedical Lab at Canton High School, creating a location for the Canton Heritage Center a place to open their doors and his newest venture, working with Jed & Haily Rhoades on The Venue, a new banquet facility coming to Canton. Congratulations Bob!

The 2019 Citizen of the Year Award recipient goes to

Chad Murphy of Spoon River College

Chad serves as the Director of Adult Education at Spoon River College. He has made this program one of the most successful in the state of Illinois. Chad has been very involved in the Canton Community by using his vocal and stage talents in many concerts and productions put on by the SRC Community Chorus, which raises money for the SRC Foundation, has served as the past Chamber President, elected official on the Canton Township and formerly Fulton County Board, involved in the Elks Lodge, Booster Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, board member of the YMCA, current Treasurer of Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development and a co-chair for Red Dog CF. Chad has raised thousands of dollars for many of the organizations he has been involved in because he loves this community and will do what he can to help keep it a wonderful place to live. Congratulations Chad!
