Illinois state Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) is part of a bipartisan Property Tax Relief Force created to study the state’s long troubled property tax system with an aim to find ways to provide relief to stressed out home and business owners.

“Escalating property taxes affect all home and business owners throughout the state,” Tracy said in a press release posted to her website. “We need to look closely at the system and see what can be done to improve it so it will work more equitably and be less burdensome for property owners. I look forward to the challenge.”

After Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed off on legislation formally enacting the task force, Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) appointed Sens. Tracy, Donald DeWitte, Dan McConchie, Dale Righter and Craig Wilcox to serve as Republican members of the committee.

The task force is expected to present its list of recommendations to Pritzker and the General Assembly within 90 days, with a final report due to be submitted by the end of the year. Currently, Illinois, at nearly double the national average, has the second highest property taxes in the country, according to SmartAsset.com
