City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.
Technology improvements benefitting firefighters and high school and college students are being made in a training room at the Festival Building thanks to a grant from Ameren Illinois.
The East Peoria Fire Department is the recipient of a $2,000 Ameren Cares grant which will fund the purchase of a smart board and projector. They will be installed in the Festival Building training room, where East Peoria firefighters regularly undergo continuing training in firefighting and emergency medical services techniques.
In addition to the firefighters, students in the East Peoria Community High School/Illinois Central College Dual Credit Emergency Medical Response-Emergency Medical Technician class will benefit from the smart board and projector. The high school and college students are in the training room three times a week during the school year, receiving instruction from a certified East Peoria Fire Department instructor in EMR and EMT processes which will help them move forward with pursuing a career in emergency services.
“The East Peoria Fire Department appreciates Ameren’s generosity in awarding us this grant,” said Fire Chief John Knapp. “These technology improvements will help the fire department meet its mission of striving to prevent what we can, and safely fix what we cannot, while providing excellent customer service to make a bad situation better.”
Other city employees that have training sessions in the room, such as the Public Works water operators, will also benefit from the improvements.
The Ameren Cares program connects Ameren with the communities it serves through charitable giving. A key focus of Ameren Cares is partnering with nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life of people in Ameren’s service territory. The program supports projects associated with the environment, youth and education, civic and community, health and human services, and arts and culture.
