City of Atlanta issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued the following statement upon the passage of legislation to codify into City Code an executive order repealing the Department of City Planning’s authorization to issue new permits for sharable dockless mobility devices. The legislation was introduced by Councilmember Carla Smith and Councilmember Dustin Hillis on behalf of Mayor Bottoms.
“Access to a wide array of mobility options is beneficial and necessary for any major city,” said Mayor Bottoms. “But there is need to pause and establish how best to regulate such a new and unknown industry.”
In July, Mayor Bottoms issued an executive order prohibiting the issuance of additional permits for shareable dockless mobility devices.
Earlier this month, Mayor Bottoms directed the Department of City Planning to implement a daily citywide No Ride Zone from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. for permitted electric scooters and E-Bikes. No permitted device will be rentable during this time period.
