City of Chillicothe Cemetery, Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee met Aug. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The Cemetery, Parks, Recreation and Beautification Committee met on August 20, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Chairman Jenkins called the meeting to order.

Present: Chairman Jenkins

Alderman Bredeman

Alderman Connor

Also in attendance: Mayor White

Clerk Hurd

Absent: Superintendent Sutherland

Public Comment: Jeff Admire of 16120 N Portage, Chillicothe appeared before the committee. Mr. Admire addressed the committee questions and ideas for “rebranding the City” with Walking/Biking Paths (multi-use paths). Mayor White explained that the city had a previous task force that made plans and submitted a grant to PUATTS for the purpose of multi-use paths. The city did not receive the grant. Mayor White stated that he would like to bring back the task force to develop a more extensive plan and re-apply for a grant. Chairman Jenkins stated that he would work on bringing the task force back together. Members of the task force were: Mike Rattcliff, Kevin Yates, Patty Audo, Maggie Butterfield, Adam Bussard, Bob Hentrich and Alderman Connor.

Budget Review:

Superintendent Sutherland reviewed the budget and reported all items are within budget.

Cemetery Request – DeFoe:

Mayor White explained to the committee that there had been a request to the council for replacement of flowers on a grave. He reported that he felt the problem had been resolved.

Picnic Tables – City Park:

Chairman Jenkins informed the committee that he was asked about having picnic tables placed on the north end of City Park. Discussion was held. Superintendent Sutherland said he would move some tables to that location.

Slide Riversound:

Superintendent Sutherland informed the committee that a slide had been broken and employee Davis is getting cost estimates to replace/fix.

Eagle Scout Project:

Sam Perkins addressed the committee with plans for a rock garden and benches at Moffitt Park. He explained that the total estimated cost of the project would be $631.64. Discussion was held in regards of funding for the project. The consensus of the committee was in favor of the project and would forward it to the Council for approval.

OLD BUSINESS:

Shademaker Update:

Alderman Connor reported that she will schedule a meeting to discuss River Seep. She reported that the committee is also working with the IVC Leadership Class to landscape around the new park signs.

Porta Potty – Riversound Park:

A short discussion was held. It was the consensus of the committee that there is not a need at this time and no further discussion will be held on the topic.

Sycamore Trails Park:

Alderman Connor informed the committee that she had information on a 100% matching grant through Game Time. She will review the information and report back. Topic will remain on agenda.
