County officials in Tazewell have issued a proclamation of disaster in the wake of the coronavirus. Several counties, including Coles and Kane, and municipalities have done the same.
Signing the proclamation activates Tazewell County's emergency operations plan and allows the Emergency Management Agency to assist when needed, according to The Pantagraph. The proclamation also states that additional resources may be made available to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and protect the residents and visitors of Tazewell County. The declaration also makes the county eligible for relief funding if it becomes available.
If a currently licensed food facility is forced to shut down because of coronavirus, there will be no reopening or inspection fee charged upon reopening, but notification must still be given to the Tazewell County Health Department Environmental Health Division.
Resources available during the coronavirus pandemic are available on a webpage created by Spain.
Because of the state restrictions already in place, the county proclamation does not include any requirements to limit gatherings or close businesses.
Rep. Ryan Spain has a designated webpage with a list of resources to help residents during this trying time. Parents can find where to pick up free lunches for their children since school is closed. There is also information about economic assistance to families, an update on utilities, and enrichment resources for remote learning.
The website also lists information about the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act that provides up to 10 weeks protective paid leave to eligible employees due to coronavirus, including being ill, taking care of someone suffering from COVID-19 or staying home to watch minor children who are out of school.
On his Facebook page, Spain provides links to local educational resources including Communication Junction and Yoga Learning Adventures.
There is also a section for those who are interested in helping. Some of these methods include donating personal protective equipment, donating blood, or donating items to local food pantry and outreach programs.
