Peoria County moved its drive-thru COVID-19 testing site in Bloomington to the Peoria Civic Center.
County Board Chairman Andrew Rand told WCBU the testing criteria at the new site will be more stringent than at the Heartland Health Services testing sites throughout the community, and plans are to test first responders and those who are symptomatic first.
Monica Hendrickson, the county's health department administrator, told the news agency that the additional testing was beneficial.
"The McLean site is run by federal assets, and they do monitor how many assets they've run through, and they've seen decreases over time, so that may be a part of the decision-making," Hendrickson told WCBU. "But again, I think overall from a community standpoint, we just want to see more testing."
The Civic Center testing site is the fifth in the community. It will be staffed by the Illinois National Guard.
