Peoria’s CityLink recently joined in a pledge made by transit agencies across the nation to make their service as safe as possible for passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Peoria Chamber of Commerce website notes that CityLink has been working to ensure the health and safety of passengers since the beginning of the pandemic. The American Public Transportation Association’s Health and Safety Commitments Program is an effort to instill confidence in passengers who use public transportation.

“The program was developed after asking transit users from across the country what measures would make them feel more confident riding public transportation amid concerns about COVID-19,” the Chamber reports.

From that survey, four primary areas were identified: Following official public health guidelines, regularly disinfecting vehicles and implementing a mask requirement for employees and passengers, creating a way to inform passengers of low-use times when riding public transit is lowest-risk, and requiring that both passengers and employees remain home if they have contracted the coronavirus.
