Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell is asking residents to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
“We are not actively looking for violations,” Asbell told the Peoria Journal Star. “This is going to be managed on a case-by-case basis and decisions will be made on the totality of the circumstances.”
Asbell and Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis have asked residents to comply with the new rules and have stressed the importance of wearing masks and social distancing. Asbell said he wouldn't be opposed to discussing an ordinance like that of Springfield that issues fines for not wearing masks.
“I would not be opposed to that discussion and if we look at what the governor said today, talking about how rapidly our positivity numbers were expanding and how he might have to tighten it down,” Asbell said. “If people had the option of that ordinance or tightening it down more, I think it would be a worthy discussion.”
