City of Pekin Beautification Committee met Jan. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting at Pekin City Hall Council Chambers

1. Call to Order at 5:04pm by Chairperson Gullette

2. Roll Call Taken. Those present include Tanya Swearingen, Kendra McDaniels, Mark Rothert, City Manager, Charity Gullette, Chair, and guests Terri Bambetti, Amy Psinas, and Dr Michele Moul.

3. Minutes from January 18, 2022 meeting were approved unanimously.

4. Public Input sought, but no speakers.

5. New Business Items were considered as follows:

5.1. Guest speaker. Terri Gambetti spoke representing downtown businesses looking to make downtown better place with art. She requested that two pocket parks along Court Street (in the 400 and 500 blocks) be converted to display art. Dr. Michele Moul spoke that she would donate some of her father's sculptures to be displayed in the 400 block pocket park. Amy Psinas, high school art teacher, also asked if high school students could paint murals on mountable canvas and work with business owners in the downtown to display them. The canvas mountings could be changed out as new murals are painted, thus creating walkable art gallery in downtown Pekin. Gambetti is to come back to the Beautification Committee on February 8, 2022 with a cost proposal for the Committee's consideration and recommendation to the City Council.

5.2. Status of ethics acknowledgment and meetings act training.! Members were reminded of the annual training on Sexual Harassment (for all) and the Open Meetings Act (for new members or those who did not complete it). The OMA training has not been readily available since the Illinois Attorney General's Office website was hacked. It , however, has been fixed and the training is now back up an available. Training resources will be provided to the members of the committee.

6. Other items for discussion were brought up that included the Pekin "welcome sign" lights are out and need checked/replaced.

7. A motion to adjourn was made at 6:15pm and passed unanimously.
