City of Pekin Fire and Police Commission met May 25.

Minutes of the meeting of the Fire and Police Commission held Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.
Present at the meeting: Commissioners Dennis Short, Mike Franks, Ed Mulvey
Also present: Police Chief John Dossey, Deputy Police Chief Seth Ranney, Deputy Fire Chief Tony Rendleman
Commissioner Short called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m.
A motion was made by Commissioner Franks to approve the meeting agenda. Commissioner Mulvey seconded the motion. All in favor.
A motion was made by Commissioner Franks to approve the April 27, 2023 meeting minutes. Commissioner Mulvey seconded the motion. All in favor.
Departmental Reports
1. FD - Probationary Reports
Probationary candidates are doing well and the department is receiving positive feedback from the academy. There are four current firefighters going through the program to receive their paramedic license. They expect them to be fully licensed this Fall.
2. PD Probationary Reports
The three officers in the academy are doing well. The department has just hired a lateral transfer from Peoria Police.
3. PD Promotions
There have been multiple promotions in the last few weeks due to retirements. Two Officers have been promoted to Sergeant and one to Lieutenant. It is expected another Lieutenant will be promoted to Deputy Chief once the current Deputy Chief retires in June. Once that happens, another Sergeant will be promoted to Lieutenant.
4. PD Retirement Letters
Commissioners signed retirement congratulations letters for retired Sgt. Von Rhor and Lt. Shipman.
A motion was made by Commissioner Franks to receive and file these reports. Commissioner Mulvey seconded the motion. All in favor.
Bills
1. PD - All Purpose Polygraph, Pre-employment exam, $150.00
2. PD Stanard, Pre-employment psych exam, $450.00
Old Business
1. PD - Original Appointment Testing Dates
Original Appointment testing will be held on Saturday, June 3rd. Applicants will complete their physical tests first, then their written and oral exams. Chief Dossey mentioned researching a program that would help streamline the application process and may be a viable option in the future.
New Business
1. Rules and Regulations Update
Possible updates were discussed including if there is only one applicant for promotion, then we maybe wouldn't have to hold a test day with the Commissioners. Commissioners suggested meeting with the City Attorney to discuss bringing any updates before the Council as a resolution.
2. FD-Testing
The Fire Department mentioned they are in talks for future testing dates and overall testing processes.
