The Waukegan Fire Department is offering the American Heart Association Friends & Family CPR course for individuals aged 15 and above. This course focuses on teaching basic lifesaving skills, including adult, child, and infant Hands-Only CPR, AED use, and how to handle mild and severe airway blockages in adults, children, and infants.
According to Lt. Adam Slade, the course will be conducted in a group environment using the practice-while-watching technique, which allows students to learn and practice CPR skills simultaneously. Lt. Slade emphasizes that this hands-on practice is crucial in building confidence and ensuring that participants are well-prepared to respond to emergency situations.
It is important to note that this course does not provide participants with a CPR course completion card or certification. However, it equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to potentially save a life.
The Waukegan Fire Department has scheduled the Friends & Family CPR course on four Saturdays throughout 2024. The dates are as follows: February 24th, May 18th, August 24th, and November 16th. All sessions will start at 10am.
To participate in the course, interested individuals must register in advance. Lt. Adam Slade can be contacted via email at cpr@waukeganil.gov for registration or additional information.
This initiative by the Waukegan Fire Department aims to empower community members with the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. By providing access to CPR training, the department hopes to create a safer environment in which everyone can play an active role in saving lives.
As Lt. Slade states, "By offering this Friends & Family CPR course, we are equipping individuals with the skills needed to make a difference in critical moments. Having the knowledge to perform CPR can truly be life-saving."
It is commendable to see the Waukegan Fire Department taking proactive measures to ensure the well-being of the community. By offering this free CPR course, they are not only providing valuable skills but also fostering a sense of empowerment and preparedness among residents.
