The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) Program was the highlight of today's #NOFOFriday. This grant aims to provide funding to states, as well as local units of government and Federally recognized Native American tribes, for projects that will offer outdoor recreation opportunities to the public. The projects can involve the acquisition of lands and waters for parks and other outdoor recreation areas, as well as the development or renovation of existing outdoor recreation facilities.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is the awarding agency for this program, and the grant amount can range from $300,000 to $15,000,000. Eligible entities include states, local governments, and Federally recognized Native American tribes.

Representative Weaver, who brought attention to this grant opportunity, encourages anyone interested in this particular grant or seeking more information on other available grants and the grant process to contact their office. They can be reached through their website or by calling (309) 204-6514.

In regards to the ORLP Program, Representative Weaver stated, "This grant provides a tremendous opportunity for states, local governments, and Native American tribes to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities for the public. By acquiring lands and developing or renovating facilities, we can create more spaces for people to engage in healthy and enjoyable outdoor activities."

The ORLP Program aligns with the growing recognition of the importance of outdoor recreation for both physical and mental well-being. It offers a chance for communities to enhance their recreational offerings, promoting the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

By investing in outdoor recreation, states and local governments can attract tourism, boost local economies, and create jobs. Furthermore, these projects contribute to the conservation and preservation of natural areas, ensuring that future generations can also enjoy the benefits of the great outdoors.

This grant opportunity comes at a time when the value of outdoor spaces has been further emphasized due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As people seek safe and socially distanced activities, the need for accessible and well-maintained outdoor recreation areas has become even more apparent.

The ORLP Program offers a chance for states, local governments, and Federally recognized Native American tribes to make a lasting impact on their communities. By taking advantage of this grant, they can create inclusive and welcoming spaces that promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

In conclusion, the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program provides a valuable opportunity for states, local governments, and Native American tribes to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities. Through the acquisition of lands, development of facilities, and renovation of existing areas, communities can create spaces that benefit the public and contribute to economic growth.
