City of Marquette Heights City Council met Dec. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER

The City Council meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M by Mayor Hamm.

ROLL CALL

Aldermen present for Roll Call: Alderman Babb, Greiner, Amundson, Joos, Neuhaus and Neumann.

Also present were Deputy Treasurer Reynolds, Building Inspector Dearborn, Attorney Herman, Deputy Clerk Minson, Police Chief Merritt, Fire Chief Hermacinski, Street Superintendent Smith and Water Superintendent Merritt.

Absent: Clerk Steele.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

Mayor

No report.

Clerk

Reminder the next council meeting will be Tuesday, December 26th.

The Christmas Dinner is scheduled for this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Gills Supper Club.

Will need an Executive Session for the discussion of personnel compensation.

Treasurer

No report.

Attorney

No report.

Building Inspector/ Code Enforce

Building Inspector Dearborn talked about how our building code for commercial was difficult to understand and way out of line cost wise compared to surrounding communities. He asked to change the code and to have a resolution to reimburse the owners of the Wesley Road property for any overages when recalculated with amended commercial permit amounts.

Communication

None.

Citizens Wishing to Address the Council

Mikel Ernst, 207 Decatur Rd. asked questions about a partially denied FOIA request then asked when residents were supposed to have time for questions and answers from the council? He feels that these meetings should be the venue where residents could ask questions and get answers.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:

Water and Sewer – Alderman Neumann

Resident attempted to turn water on and actually opened valves that service North Pekin’s water tower. Superintendent Merritt was notified when North Pekin called him because we had overflowed their tanks capacity. Legal action has been taken.

Law Enforcement – Alderman Amundson

No report.

Streets – Alderman Joos

Chipper is working for now. $1,354.00 upgrade to the plow. Koenig working on electrical issue with new truck, which is under warranty.

Public Buildings / Parks – Alderman Greiner

Will be discussing updates for the Men’s Club lease. Copperfield Electric to keep on the electrical issues on the roof. This will come out of savings and was approved earlier this year.

Fire – Alderman Greiner

313 going in for repairs.

This weekend will be food baskets, sorting, and filling. Will be delivering on Sunday.

Planning – Alderman Babb

No report.

CONSENT AGENDA:

APPROVAL OF THE FOLLOWING CONSENT ITEMS BY VOTE:

(All matters listed under CONSENT AGENDA will be enacted by one motion and one roll call vote.

There will not be separate discussion on these items. If discussion is desired by any Member of the

City Council, the item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and discussed immediately after approval of the Consent Agenda.)

1. Approve December 11, 2023, Regular Council Meeting Minutes.

2. Approve December 11, 2023, Executive Minutes.

3. Approve Bi-Monthly expenditures in the sum of $92,023.28 .

4. Approve $23,000.00 to Hjerpe & Tennison for 4/30/2022 FY Audit and Comptrollers report.

5. Approve $441.00 for Genie inspection and $1,134.00 for parts to Altorfer, for total of $1,575.00.

6. Approve $1,876.48 to Vermeer Midwest for chipper repairs.

ITEMS REMOVED FROM CONSENT AGENDA:

None.

APPROVE CONSENT AGENDA:

Alderman Greiner made a motion, seconded by Alderman Joos to approve the Consent Agenda in its entirety. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Alderman Joos, Amundson, Neuhaus, Greiner, Neumann, and Babb. Nays: None. Motion passed.

NEW BUSINESS

None.

CITIZENS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNTIL

ANY OTHER BUSINESS PERTAINING TO THE CITY.

Alderman Greiner discussed a sign that the Men’s Club would like to purchase to use at the bottom of the hill. It would be a 4 x 8’ and sit on a trailer, would run on electric or generator.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Neumann made a motion, seconded by Alderman Amundson to adjourn the regular City Council Meeting at 7:32 p.m. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed.
