Illinois State Representative Ryan Spain recently joined the Capitol Crimes podcast to discuss the crucial issue of tackling public corruption. In the podcast episode titled "Shattered Trust," the conversation delved into the challenges faced by legislators in combating rampant corruption and rebuilding trust among the public.

During the discussion, Representative Spain emphasized the importance of public trust in leaders, highlighting the significant impact of shattered trust on democracy. He stated, "Democracy depends on the public’s trust of its leaders. When that trust is shattered it could take years, if ever, to put the pieces back together."

The podcast also addressed the prevalent issue of disengagement from politics due to a lack of trust in politicians' commitment to good public policy. Representative Spain questioned, "Why should they care about good public policy if the politicians don’t?"

The episode shed light on the ongoing efforts of lawmakers, including Illinois State Representatives Ryan Spain and Amy Elik, to combat corruption and reverse the negative perception of Illinois as one of the most corrupt states. Despite facing challenges from leaders within the General Assembly, these legislators remain determined to take effective action to eradicate the culture of corruption in Illinois.

As discussions on combating public corruption continue, Representative Spain and other dedicated lawmakers strive to restore trust and transparency in governance, working towards a future where the public can once again have confidence in their elected officials.
