City of Chillicothe Cemetery, Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee met June 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Members of the Cemetery & Parks Committee met in person on June 18, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Cemetery & Parks Committee members present at the meeting in the Council Chambers: Chairman Tim White, Alderperson Connor

Cemetery & Parks Committee members absent for the meeting in the Council Chambers: Alderperson Bredeman

Others in attendance in the Council Chamber: Mayor Hughes, Clerk Jill Byrnes, Superintendent Shawn. Sutherland

Others absent in the Council Chamber: None

PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

PURPOSE:

NEW EMPLOYEE HIRE:

Superintendent Sutherland explained to the Committee that one of his seasonal workers is going to be out for upcoming surgery and most likely out the remainder of the year. He would like to interview for a replacement. He currently has 2 applicants to interview and will provide updates at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

SHADE - CANOPY FOR CITY PARK STAGE VIEWING AREA:

Chairman T. White explained to the Committee that he is still obtaining financials on the shade canopy and installation and will provide updates at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

DISCUSSION-CATHOLIC SECTION

CEMETERY:

Chairman T. White announced to the Committee that he had not received an update from City Attorney Kevin Day. Chairman T. White will contact Attorney Day and provide updates at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

HEADSTONE REPAIRS:

Superintendent Sutherland informed the Committee he had attempted to contact Wyoming Monument on 3 occasions with no response. Superintendent Sutherland and his staff began repairs on the headstones in question and to date have completed 25 headstones. There goal is to continue repairs as weather and time permits.

FLAG POLE REPLACEMENT - VETERAN SECTION - CEMETERY:

Superintendent Sutherland reported to the Committee that he had received an estimate of $1,300.00 from Peoria Flag and Decorating for the hardware & installation. Superintendent Sutherland is still seeking bids for the concrete, not to exceed $1,500.00 for a total cost not to exceed $2,800.00. Superintendent Sutherland discovered that this is a Priority 2 project in the 2024-2025 budget and this agenda item will be discussed at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

SHADEMAKERS UPDATE:

Alderperson Connor, Chairman of Shademakers reported to the Committee that Owens Design Group is working on the Pollinator Garden sign for Moffitt Park. Estimated cost for the Pollinator Garden sign is $427.92. Nomination forms are available for the 31st annual "Catch the Beauty Contest", at City Hall. Alderperson Connor expressed interest in the Shademakers Committee beautifying the area north of City Hall to the alley. Alderperson Connor will attempt to reach out to the family and local veterans' organizations about the possible relocation of the veterans sign in said area, therefore allowing the Committee to access what needs to be done to beautify the area.

OLD BUSINESS:

Superintendent Sutherland reported that additional trail signage had been installed at Moffitt Park.
