Peoria County charges teen with attempted murder in South Peoria shooting

August 23, 2024, Peoria, IL – The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged a 15-year-old male with Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm for shooting a 16-year-old male on Tuesday night in South Peoria.

Around 7:30 pm Tuesday, officers responded to the 2700 block of W. Wyoming following a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found the victim lying in an alleyway with multiple gunshot wounds. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Officers identified the defendant as a suspect and recovered a gun while executing a search warrant at his home. Shell casings from that gun matched those recovered from the shooting scene.

The State’s Attorney’s Office is filing a Petition to Transfer the case to adult court. The defendant will remain in custody at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
