Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River, according to an announcement from the City of Peoria. The overflow occurred at one or more locations indicated on a map provided by the city.

Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina. "You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow," stated the city's warning.

The City of Peoria is actively working on projects aimed at reducing such overflows into the river during periods of wet weather. These efforts are part of compliance with both the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
