Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River. This occurred within the last 24 hours from one or more locations indicated on a map provided by city officials.

Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina. "You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow," warns the City of Peoria.

Efforts are underway to address this issue. The city is constructing projects aimed at reducing such overflows during wet weather conditions. These initiatives are part of compliance with the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
