A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Rock Island County Sheriff's office on January 7, 2025. The request, submitted by us at Peoria Standard, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought access to arrest records from the year 2024.
The requested records include a list of all arrests made within the county from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. The specific details asked for in the request are as follows: the name of the arrestee, date of arrest, gender and race of the arrestee, arrestee's date of birth, and the crime committed.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes reporting accurate information to our readers and holding public institutions accountable for their actions.
In line with this commitment, we have requested that any associated fees be waived due to our status as a media organization disseminating information to the public.
We await a response from the Rock Island County Sheriff's office regarding this FOIA request.
