The city of Peoria has announced the Banners and Boxes Beautification Program, aiming to display local artists' work in downtown and warehouse districts. The initiative will transform electrical boxes and light post banners into an outdoor gallery, enhancing community spaces with vibrant artwork.

A total of 15 electrical boxes and 100 banners will feature art from Peoria-based artists. Artists residing or working in Peoria are invited to apply, with up to twenty selected for banners and five for electrical boxes. Applications opened on February 1 and close on March 22, 2025. Details can be found on the city's website.

“This program reflects Peoria’s dedication to fostering a vibrant and dynamic community,” said Stacy Peterson, Strategic Communications Manager and Staff Liaison to the Public Arts Advisory Commission. “By celebrating our local artists and incorporating their work into our public spaces, we’re enhancing the cultural fabric of our city and creating inviting spaces for residents and visitors alike.” The program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Peoria's commitment to public art is well-established through sculptures, murals, and architectural designs that shape its character. The new program continues this tradition by turning everyday infrastructure into artistic canvases.

To apply: Visit the city's website for policy details; choose between banner or box consideration; upload a high-resolution jpg of your artwork; download the relevant template; sketch your design; upload your completed template.
