State Representative Ryan Spain recently held a press conference at the State Capitol to announce a lawsuit challenging the current legislative maps, which he claims are gerrymandered. The legal action aims to address concerns about partisan districting favoring Democratic candidates.

According to a news report, House Republicans argue that "the lawsuit alleges the current House map fails to meet state constitutional requirements that districts be compact and allow elections to be 'free and equal.'" They contend that the existing boundaries result in elections that are "rigged" in favor of Democrats. Consequently, Republicans are seeking court intervention to invalidate these maps and appoint a special master for redrawing district lines.

Rep. Spain expressed optimism regarding the lawsuit filed with the Illinois Supreme Court last Tuesday. He stated, "We have more evidence than ever before, and while lawsuits have taken place at the federal level," adding, "This is the first time legislative maps, this current map, will be challenged at the Illinois Supreme Court."
