The City of Peoria's Department of Public Works has announced that its Snowfighters have resumed 12-hour, around-the-clock operations. This decision comes in anticipation of the forecasted snowfall and overnight freezing rain expected this evening.
Although the city anticipates less than an inch of snow, there is a concern about overnight freezing rain that could extend into Saturday morning. This weather condition may lead to a thin layer of ice forming on the city's roadways.
In preparation, hills and overpasses have been pretreated with salt. Crews will prioritize treating primary roads and emergency snow routes as precipitation occurs. The round-the-clock operations will persist until further notice.
Public Works advises residents to be aware that road conditions might change quickly due to the timing and forecasted wintry mix. There is a possibility for slick spots as the expected snowfall could be wet and slushy.
Residents are urged to exercise extra caution when traveling on potentially ice-covered roads. It is recommended to travel slower than usual, maintain extra distance from other vehicles, and remain alert for changing road conditions.
