Democrats propose new higher education funding formula in Illinois

Illinois House Democrats have introduced a bill, HB 1581, that seeks to overhaul the higher education funding formula for state schools. The proposal includes promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) admissions, lowering GPA standards, and reducing incentives for maintenance upkeep.

The proposed changes have sparked debate as no other university system or state has adopted a diversity-based funding formula similar to this.
