FOIA Request to Fulton County regarding tax relief requests for a veteran with disabilities on June 10, 2025.

On June 10, 2025, the Peoria Standard submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Fulton County, Illinois. The request seeks access to records related to property tax relief and exemptions for veterans with disabilities and their surviving spouses for the tax year 2024 onwards. Specifically, the request includes documents showing individuals who requested or received property tax relief as a veteran with a disability or as a surviving spouse of a disabled veteran. It also covers those who sought or were granted specially adapted housing exemptions and standard homestead exemptions for veterans with disabilities, in accordance with Illinois statutes 35 ILCS 200/15-165 and 35 ILCS 200/15-169. Additionally, the request encompasses records related to returning veterans' homestead exemptions under statute 35 ILCS 200/15-172.

The Peoria Standard is part of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency in government actions through FOIA and Sunshine Laws. This coalition supports media outlets in investigating state and federal agencies to inform the public effectively.

Fulton County is home to an average student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1 during the 2022-23 school year, serving nearly 3,989 students with the help of approximately 338 full-time faculty members across its schools.
