Norwood Elementary School District 63 students suspended 27 times in a single school year

Norwood Elementary School District 63 reported 27 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 27 students during the year. That equates to 6.3 percent of the 428 students enrolled.

Of the 14 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes eight incidents. There were six incidents of unspecified reasons. For 12 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 13 out-of-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 10 incidents. There were one incidents of violence without physical injury. For five incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
