MacArthur Highway southbound lane closure set for November 13 in Peoria

Beginning Thursday, November 13 at 6:30 a.m., changes will be made to the traffic pattern on N. MacArthur Highway in Peoria. The southbound lane between W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue and W. Hurlburt Street will be closed to all traffic.

The highway will operate as a one-way street for northbound vehicles only within this section. Access to businesses along the affected area will remain available. Drivers entering or exiting Valley Park Shopping Center are advised to use W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue, while those accessing the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood School parking lot should use N. Richard Pryor Place.

According to city officials, “Drivers should utilize all marked detour routes. Drivers should use caution in the area and be mindful of the closure. The use of alternative routes is advised.”

For southbound through traffic on N. MacArthur Highway, the suggested detour is Main Street to S.W. Monroe Street, then W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue, followed by N. Richard Pryor Place and Jefferson Avenue.

Northbound through traffic is directed to take Hurlburt Street to N. Richard Pryor Place, then W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue, S.W. Monroe Street, and finally Main Street.

W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue will reopen at N. MacArthur Highway as part of these changes.
