Hickory Grove Road to close for two weeks starting Aug. 22
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, W Hickory Grove Road will be closed from N Granite Street to the entrance of Stone Water Park. The closure is necessary for pavement work and is expected to last two weeks, weather permitting.

Department of Public Works opens Paint a Plow Program for local students
While winter weather is not on the minds of many at this time of year, the Department of Public Works continues its preparations. The department's annual Paint a Plow Program is commencing to educate residents about best practices for drivers and pedestrians when encountering snowplows and driving on city streets.

Water Street to close for Simantel's Smoke on the Water event
S.W. Water Street will be closed between Harrison Street and Liberty Street from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. The closure is required for Simantel’s Smoke on the Water private event.

Pavement pouring on Pioneer Parkway scheduled for Monday
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, pavement pouring will occur on Pioneer Parkway as part of the Pioneer Parkway and University Street Intersection Reconstruction Project. The work is expected to last through the day, weather permitting.

Preston Jackson sculpture rededicated to local advocate Steve Shostrom
The city of Peoria held a rededication event on the riverfront today for one of Preston Jackson’s sculptures in Liberty Park, located in the 300 block of SW Water Street. “Flight of the Cakewalkers,” a painted steel and cast bronze sculpture, now newly restored, was rededicated to Steve Shostrom, an advocate for Peoria and the riverfront, by his wife, Joy Kessler. Speakers at the event included Mayor Ali, Emily Cahill, Executive Director of Peoria Park District, and Kessler.

Sidewalk work nearing completion at Hamilton Boulevard and NE Adams Street
Sidewalk work at the intersection of Hamilton Boulevard and NE Adams Street is nearing completion. The sidewalks near 201 NE Adams Street will reopen to pedestrian access soon.

Turn lane changes on University Street and Pioneer Parkway begin Aug. 14
Beginning at 7 am on Wednesday, Aug. 14, a change to the northbound University Street right turn lane onto eastbound Pioneer Parkway will occur. The turn lane will be shortened in length and is necessary for utility work as part of the Pioneer Parkway and University Street Reconstruction Project.

Peoria to host sculpture rededication honoring local resident
The City of Peoria will host a sculpture rededication program on Wednesday, August 14, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place at Liberty Park, adjacent to the MEL parking lot in the 300 block of SW Water Street and near the River Station building.

Temporary all-stop configuration implemented at MacArthur Highway and Moss Avenue
As part of the MacArthur Highway – Martin Luther King Jr. to Moss Avenue Reconstruction Project, temporary stop signs have been placed at the intersection of MacArthur Highway and Moss Avenue. The all-stop configuration is necessary for traffic signal work and will last for the foreseeable future of the project.

Nebraska Avenue to close for reconstruction project starting August 12
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, W. Nebraska Avenue will be closed to all traffic between N Park Road and the I-74 Interstate overpass bridge. The closure is necessary for the Nebraska Avenue Reconstruction Project and is expected to last until mid-December, weather permitting.

Peoria accepting applications for vacant City Treasurer position
Applications are still being accepted for the Peoria City Treasurer vacancy, left open by the resignation of Stephen Morris due to “personal and professional commitments.” The resident filling the interim position will remain in office for the remainder of the term. The general election for City Treasurer will be held on April 1, 2025.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 29, S Blaine Street will be closed to through traffic between W Widenham Street and W Kettelle Street. The closure is necessary for Combined Sewer Overflow Control Project Year 3 work and is expected to last four months, weather permitting.
