  • Peoria County announces facility closures for Memorial Day

    Peoria County, Illinois, has announced that several of its facilities will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, 2024. The list of closures includes the Peoria County Courthouse, Veterans Assistance Commission, Election Commission, Animal Protection Services (PCAPS), Highway Department offices, and Peoria City/County Health Department offices. These departments are scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 28.

  • Man pleads guilty in West Peoria bar shooting

    May 21, 2024, Peoria, IL – Anthony T. Gates, 43, pleaded guilty today to aggravated battery for a shooting last September at Mike’s Tavern in West Peoria that injured an employee. According to the plea agreement, Gates will serve ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and must serve 85% of that sentence pursuant to statute.

  • Attempted murder charge filed after stabbing incident in Peoria

    May 21, 2024, Peoria, IL – Korie Neltner, 36, has been charged with Attempt First Degree Murder following an incident in which he allegedly sliced open his cousin's stomach from his groin to his sternum. The State’s Petition to Detain the defendant was granted, and he will remain in custody until trial. Neltner is also facing an Aggravated Battery charge in the case.

  • Teen charged with weapon offense transferred to adult court

    On May 15, 2024, a Peoria County Judge approved the State's Petition to Transfer to Adult Court for a minor previously charged with Unlawful Use of Weapons. The minor, D’Berry M. Coleman, now 18 years old, will face charges as an adult for the same offense stemming from an incident that transpired in April, just three weeks shy of his 18th birthday. The State’s Petition to Detain the defendant was also granted, and Coleman will remain in custody until his trial.

  • 17-Year-Old Plead Guilty to Double Shooting Sentenced to 31 Years in Prison

    On May 6, 2024, in Peoria, IL, 17-year-old Donald Grant pleaded guilty to Attempt Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm for a shooting incident in Bartonville in February that resulted in two teens sustaining gunshot wounds.
